Welcome to Katakora
There is a particular kind of story that only works when you hear it.
Not read it. Not watch it. But Hear it!! with the pauses, the weight in a voice, the way a storyteller holds back before the reveal. That's the story we're trying to preserve. That's the story Katakora was built around.
Why we built this
African stories are everywhere. In grandmothers' kitchens, under the moonlight, in the cadence of market conversation, in the way elders remember things. But they're scattered. Hard to find in one place. Harder still to find in a format that honours the way they were meant to be experienced.
We built Katakora to change that; a purposeful home for African cultural and historical stories, made for listening.
Not another podcast platform. Not audiobooks in the traditional sense. Something closer to the experience of sitting down and being told a story by someone who knows it deeply.
What to expect
Katakora is for listeners who want to go somewhere. For a few minutes or a few hours, into a folktale from the Yoruba, a true life story from the Sahel, a reimagined biography from the Great Lakes.
And it's for the storytellers who carry these stories. Historians, folklorists, voice artists, educators; people who have spent years close to these narratives and want the world to hear them.
We're just getting started. More stories are on the way. If you want to be among the first to know when something new lands, follow us on X or Instagram.
If you have a story to tell, we'd love to hear from you, start at katakora.com/creator/apply.
